The ISPM-15 heat treatment and fumigation mandatory for wooden export packaging are not required for composite (presswood) pallets. The export pallet produced by Efesan Kompozit at its facility in Akyurt, Ankara can be shipped worldwide with no heat-treatment certificate, fumigation fee or customs delay.
Why is a composite pallet exempt from ISPM-15?
ISPM-15 requires heat treatment (HT) or fumigation to stop untreated solid wood packaging from carrying pests in international trade. A composite pallet is a processed wood product made by pressing wood fibre with resin above 150 °C under high pressure. This far exceeds the 56 °C core temperature ISPM-15 looks for and places the product outside the scope of the standard. The exemption comes from the product itself — you do not need to re-treat it for every shipment.
Eliminate fumigation and heat-treatment cost
With wooden pallets, export adds these items on top of the label price:
- Heat treatment (HT) or fumigation fee
- IPPC stamping and certification
- Waiting time for the treatment
- Risk of customs rejection / return for non-compliant pallets
A composite export pallet has none of these items; total cost drops and shipping speeds up.
Light and hygienic: an edge in freight and customs
A composite pallet is noticeably lighter than a euro wooden pallet (~14–20 kg by size), lowering freight cost — especially in air cargo. Being nestable, it saves space on empty returns and storage. Its smooth, splinter-free, non-absorbent surface meets hygiene expectations in food and pharma export.
